The true story of Catherine Weldon, a portrait painter who traveled from Brooklyn in 1899 to the Standing Rock Reservation in Dakota Territory to paint a portrait of the legendary Indian leader Sitting Bull. There she became embroiled in the Lakota Sioux peoples’ struggle over rights to their land, writing letters to the federal government on behalf of Sitting Bull and his people.
